Philip Treacy, the designer responsible for the some of the crazy hats showcased at the Royal Wedding last year, put on a catwalk show at London Fashion Week which featured only black models such as Leomie Anderson, Jourdan Dunn and Alek Wek last night.
Although the designer has not explained his reasoning behind using only black models, his move was described by Alex Shah of Premier Models Management as
a step in the right direction
The catwalk show also paid homage to the late Michael Jackson with each of the models wearing outfits from the King of Pop’s wardrobe topped off with a hat by Philip Treacy.
Leomie Anderson, who you will already know is a Pappzd Magazine favourite, also featured on the catwalk tweeted:
Still can get over the fact that I've worn all of Michael Jackson key pieces. Like all 50 of them. Too amazing.

Jourdan Dunn also tweeted:
So the genius that is Philip Tracey just had an alll BLACK model Cast, wearing MICHAEL JACKSON ORIGINAL STAGE/VIDEO outfits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The hats were based on Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch and all things MJ, one of the hats being a sequinned hand and another a miniature Ferris wheel.
Speaking to the International Herald Tribune, Philip Treacy said of the event,
the most exciting show I have ever done. Michael Jackson did better than anyone the sense of the extraordinary
The designer hasn’t explicitly explained his decision to use only black models, and we applaud him for not ‘having a reason’. If he felt that these particular models represented the look he needed for this show then that should be all there is to it.
Philip Treacy, we salute you.
