Doncaster Rovers footballer El Hadji Diouf was arrested by police yesterday on suspicion of violent disorder after a fight broke out at the Circle Bar in Manchester city centre, involving some friends of former team mate Anton Ferdinand.
It’s believed that Diouf, who is known for his fiery temper, had arrived at the bar with his wife, suffered a facial injury and was later questioned for several hours by police before being bailed. A friend of Ferdinand was injured with a broken glass or bottle, leaving him in a serious condition in hospital. A source told The Sun.
It’s not clear what started the fight but it became very nasty very, very quickly.
Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand was interviewed under police caution but wasn’t arrested.
Diouf and Ferdinand have never been the best of friends, In 2009 Diouf allegedly threatened to “knife” Ferdinand after a bust-up on the pitch and he has also been accused of spitting on the pitch at opposing players and even fans.
Six men were arrested in total.
