Ade Adepitan, a Paralympian who has featured in many BBC adverts, had a specially adapted wheelchair stolen from him last Saturday.

The wheelchair was in the back of a BMW X5, driven away by thieves who broke the window. The car was painted with Olympic slogans and had been parked in Hounslow, west London when it was stolen.

A customised basketball with the name Ade on it was also in the car, along with a pair of purple and orange crutches.

Ade, who also works as a TV presenter, represented Britain at the 2004 Paralympic games. The 38-year-old Nigerian-born athlete lost the use of his left leg as a child due to polio.

If anyone has information they are asked to contact Hounslow police on 020 8247 6545 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
